Email from MCCC Vice President, May 1, 2019

All,

Today is a special day for Madera & Oakhurst Community College Centers. Please help me welcome President Angel Reyna to our campus and our community. President Reyna is eager to connect with everyone via informal “meet & greets”. We will be posting meeting hours as his schedule becomes more defined.

Congratulations, go Mountain Lions!!!

Email from MCCC Vice President, March 26, 2019

Dear MCCC Faculty and Staff,

Just a week ago I informed you of the Board of Governors approval regarding our request to seek accreditation and I summarized the steps and the timeline moving forward. Yesterday we were in communications with ACCJC and I am happy to announce that they have given us a date for the initial accreditation visit.

Please mark your calendars, the site visit for Initial Accreditation is set for October 14 – 17, 2019.

Although we will operate as normal as possible during the visit, we have a great opportunity to showcase our vibrant emerging college.

Fall’19 will be a great semester for us. We will busy preparing the campus in the weeks prior to the visit. We encourage everyone to plan any travel for after the visit. For those of you planning to participate in accreditation visits to other colleges, we kindly request that you postpone until Spring ’20. Those who have served before know how time consuming those visits are.

The rest of this Spring semester will require us to keep our focus on completing the Institutional Self Evaluation Report (ISER). I know many of you are involved in the review of the draft. We look forward to your comments and corrections to help us finalize this report for Board of Trustees approval.

Just a little over a year ago a group of us traveled to Sacramento to express our intend to submit a request to become a college. Today we secured the accreditation visit. It is likely that next year at this time we will be officially transitioning to full college status. This is unprecedented and we should be proud of this great work… #116 !!!

Congratulations, go Mountain Lions!!!

Email from MCCC Vice President, March 19, 2019

Dear MCCC Faculty and Staff,

On Monday March 18, I attended the Board of Governors (BoG) meeting in Sacramento where I answered questions regarding our request to pursue college status. It gives me great pleasure to let you know that The BoG unanimously approved our request. This action allows us to move forward with ACCJC in seeking Initial Accreditation.

In January, we submitted the Eligibility Report to ACCJC for review. We hope to be on their agenda in the next couple of months for approval of this report. Approval will trigger setting the date for the accreditation visit in the fall. Completing the Institutional Self Evaluation Report (ISER) is our next big milestone in anticipation of the Fall ’19 visit. Constituency review of the ISER draft will start on March 20. The writing team looks forward to everyone’s comments and corrections to help us finalize this report for Board of Trustees approval.

I would like to congratulate all faculty, staff and administrators for participating in this process, and for the many contributions that have helped us get this far. This is a monumental step and the first time that the State Chancellor’s Office and the Board of Governors have considered Madera Community College Center as a candidate for college status.

We need to celebrate the significance of this moment, and reflect on the transformational impact that “College” status will provide Madera County and the 5,600 students that we currently serve.

Congratulations, go Mountain Lions!!!
