Without an individual’s memory, a person loses his or her identity. The same is true of societies which are made up of individuals. History is the study of our collective memory. It lets us know where we’ve been, how we got where we are and where we may be headed in the future. It is critical to our maturation as a civilized people and to us as individuals as we struggle to comprehend the world around us and our place in it. The study of history is a basic element of a well-rounded education to help create thoughtful men & women who can contribute to the world around them in a meaningful way.
