Beware of Scholarship Scams
• If you must pay money to get money, it might be a scam.
• Legitimate scholarship foundations do not charge application fees;
• Legitimate scholarship foundations cannot guarantee a scholarship;
• If an offer seems suspicious, it's usually with good reason.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) cautions students to look for tell-tales lines:
"The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back."
"You can't get this information anywhere else."
"I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship."
"We'll do all the work."
"The scholarship will cost some money."

Writing A Successful Essay
Think before you write. Brainstorm to generate some good ideas, then create an outline to get you started.
Be original and creative. It's your job to make your essay stand out from the rest.
Show, don't tell. Use examples to individualize your essay and demonstrate your point.
Develop a theme. Write about experiences that develop and support your theme.
Proofread your essay! Check your spelling and grammar and share your essay with friends or a teacher. Another pair of eyes can catch errors you might miss.
