A special task force was established at the request of President Caldwell following incidents that occurred on the Reedley campus in January of 2018. The task force consists of faculty, staff and students who are analyzing our security standards to include: facilities, awareness of emergency procedures, and communications. The task force will be making recommendations for what more SCCCD and Reedley College can do to protect our college community and cope with the after effects of any emergency situations.
The following will be examined by the task force:
- Student, staff and faculty preparation for emergency situations on campus - How can we best prepare our college community for identifying risks, preventing and reacting to emergency situations on campus in the future?
- Communications - How can we best ensure the timeliness and usefulness of communications during and after emergency situations? How can we better provide an authoritative source of information so that inconsistent reports and misinformation does not generate unnecessary anxiety and confusion? What is needed to address the concerns of parents, neighbors, media and others?
- Facilities / Building security - What steps do we need to take to improve the safety and security of campus buildings, consistent with our values and commitment to maintaining an open campus?
- Campus Based Cross Training – Should staff from College be trained in sending out emergency notices? What circumstances would warrant the College taking on this role vs. the SCCCD Police? How to prevent duplicating notifications or contradicting notices?
