Welcome Madera Community College and Oakhurst Community College Center Students,
As you know, Madera and Oakhurst will offer most courses online for the fall 2020 semester. We identified courses that can be effectively offered online and implemented safety measures for those that will remain on campus. Student safety is our priority when making these decisions.
Some courses that incorporate labs such as Biology and Chemistry and select courses within CTE will retain a face-to-face portion. Courses that will meet face-to-face require appropriate personal protection and social distancing. Lecture-based courses will be via online offerings (synchronous, asynchronous, or a combination of the two).
We know that many of you would prefer face-to-face courses and that you may be uncertain about online education. We are offering a series of support workshops to demonstrate what online courses might look like and to help you prepare for an online education. The days and times for these workshops will be announced shortly through a variety of channels and posted on the college website. Students can also visit the California Virtual Campus – Online Education Initiative to help prepare for online instruction.
If you do not have access to technology (laptop or Wi-Fi), please contact Madera’s IT Department at (559) 675-4879 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to see if you can check out a laptop or Wi-Fi hot spot. Technology is limited.
Some of you may want to contact the course instructor about the format and plans for your online course. You may do so by clicking on the Section Name and Title to show the information of the course and get the faculty email address. Some of you may want to speak to a counselor about your course selection and course load now that course offerings are clearer. Madera Community College is doing everything we can to support students in fall 2020. Tutoring, counseling, and other student supports will continue to be available for all students. Online access to all services is being enhanced and the college has laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots available for loan at no cost to students. Instructors and support staff continue to participate in distance education training to ensure that those teaching and working online optimize their effectiveness.
While the fall semester may not look like what you are used to or what you had planned, we are in this together!
