MCCC/OCCC Remains Open, But Moves Instruction to Alternate Formats

Mar 14, 2020

Dear Students at MCCC/OCCC:

While there is currently no community transmitted cases of COVID-19 in Fresno and Madera counties, State Center Community College District (SCCCD) is planning to make some changes in response to the growing concerns of COVID-19.

As you likely have heard by now, SCCCD is temporarily suspending in-person, on-campus classes from Monday, March 16 through Thursday, March 19.  During this period your instructors, who are currently teaching their classes as a “face-to-face” class on campus, will prepare to migrate their respective classes to the online/hybrid format.  While we understand that certain classes, including labs, are challenging to be taught online, we are trying to migrate as many of the classes as possible.

If you are currently taking classes online/hybrid, those classes will continue as scheduled, without breaks. Also, select classes, including some CTE programs, nursing, labs, and clinical will meet next week as scheduled. For classes that are currently offered face-to-face, the transition to online / hybrid will begin Friday, March 20, or sooner.   Additionally, 2nd, 9-week sessions are set to begin March 16th. Please check your Canvas page for specific instructions from your instructor.

The campuses in Madera and Oakhurst will remain open and students will be allowed to come to campus to utilize WiFi.  Student Services offices, the Library, Academic Success Centers, food pantry, childcare center, and certain computer labs will remain open to support students who do not have access to computers and/or WiFi at home. Student Services will also be working to move as many services as possible to an alternate format.

Parking will be relaxed on March 16th – April 24th.

Please continue to monitor Campus/District email, the Campus/District website, your Canvas page, and Campus/District social media for further developments and information.

Please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to minimize disruption to your educational plans, and to provide the coursework you need to achieve your certificates, degrees, and transfer on time.

Thank you for your understanding.
