For six days a week during the fall and spring semesters and four days a week during summer sessions, the Academic Success Centers (ASC) offer free tutoring in three spaces – the STEM Center, Reading and Writing Center, and Learning Center – for courses across the curriculum at Madera Community College Center. We have the same goal as the students we help: Working toward success in the classroom!
How do we reach this shared ambition? ASC tutoring and its supplementary services facilitate learning and academic success through both collaborative and independent learning activities. In other words, we are dedicated not only to work alongside students but to give them the skills and confidence to succeed in college on their own.
All ASC employees receive a professional certification through the College Reading and Learning Association upon completing their first semester of training.
No matter what kind of help you need, the Academic Success Centers have a service that can help you thrive in MCCC’s community of learners.
For students of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, the STEM Center offers free drop-in tutoring for all levels of math, as well as biology, chemistry, and physics.
Whether you need help starting an assignment, want feedback on a draft, or have to polish your grammar and citations, the Reading and Writing Center offers free appointments and resources for all student writers. Come write with us!
The home of MCCC’s Extending the Classroom (ETC) initiative, the Learning Center puts tutors in classrooms across the curriculum and offers both drop-in tutoring and regularly scheduled sessions in everything from accounting and communications to philosophy and psychology.
The Learning Center and RWC host periodic workshops throughout the semester in order to help students navigate the ins and outs of the college experience. Whether you need help learning to use your calculator, managing your time, or synthesizing sources in an essay, we want to help you improve overall as learners. For MCCC faculty and staff: Think there’s a workshop that ASC should do? Feel free to let us know by using the contact information above.
Interested in an on-campus job? If you are an MCCC student who is interested in becoming an educator or simply in working with other students, working as an ASC tutor can be a valuable experience! You can work up to 19 hours per week and we are always accepting applications, so learn more about our specific needs by visiting AM-154.
